Carla having spent sometime in portugal i found that at times the natural light was harsh and had to drop fstops to under expose shots what is your advice on this. I love Sagres for dramatic seas and rocks

I believe it depends a bit on the camera you're shooting with but mostly on the time of day you choose to shoot at. At midday, it's wise to expose for the highlights and then try to get as much as you can from the darker areas in post-processing. Personally, I try to get it right as much as possible in-camera but, since I shoot RAW, I tweak my photos (when I really have to) just before I convert them to JPGs.
